The property owners assert that they're entitled to demolish and build whatever they choose, within zoning guidelines, while other community members argue for the preservation of classic architecture and open space. After all, "houses built today are typically more than twice the size of ones built in 1950, yet lot sizes have remained the same." A huge house crammed into a historical community doesn't give anyone much breathing room.

In Chevy Chase, citizens took action through official channels and petitioned for a temporary halt on new construction, which the town council approved. But realtors, developers and property owners aren't happy and say the measure will slow growth and could affect their economy long-term.

Consumers seen lifting GDP, but pace sluggish

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A late spurt in consumer spending probably lifted U.S. economic growth in the third quarter, but the pace of expansion will be too meager to raise hopes stubbornly high unemployment will come down much further anytime soon.

U.S. gross domestic product likely grew at a 1.9 percent annual rate in the third quarter, according to a Reuters poll of economists. That would mark a step up from the second quarter's anemic 1.3 percent pace, but still fall well short of the 2.5 percent to 3 percent pace economists say is needed over several quarters to significantly dent unemployment.

The Commerce Department will release the GDP report at 8:30 a.m. EDT (1230 GMT) on Friday, just over a week before Americans go to the polls in a tightly contested race for the White House.

U.S. President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney are in a dead heat. While the economy's health is at the core of the November 6 election, the report will probably not hold much sway as it will show little change in the fundamental picture.

An 11th hour burst in consumer spending, driven by automobile purchases and with a helping hand from Apple Inc's iPhone 5, is seen supporting GDP growth in the third quarter. Robust gains in home building will also help.

"Consumers did their part, especially given the headwinds of higher energy prices and a still very weak jobs market. The economy is still lacking that spark that we need to really get it moving more quickly," said Ryan Sweet, a senior economist at Moody's Analytics in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Consumer spending, which accounts for about 70 percent of U.S. economic activity, is expected to have grown at a rate of at least 2 percent in the third quarter after increasing at a 1.5 percent pace in the prior period.

REPORT WON'T ALTER FED PATH

Though the jobless rate has dropped by 2.2 percentage points to 7.8 percent from its 10 percent peak in October 2009, the decline has been due to Americans giving up the hunt for work.

The economy, which has struggled to grow above a 2 percent pace since the 2007-09 recession ended, has been too sluggish to create the jobs needed to lower unemployment.

The third-quarter GDP report is not expected to deviate much from that pattern, which should keep the Federal Reserve on its ultra easy monetary policy path. Officials at the U.S. central bank started a regular two-day meeting on Tuesday and no major changes to policy were expected.

Last month the Fed announced a plan to buy $40 billion worth of mortgage-backed securities each month until it sees a sustained turnaround in employment. It hopes the purchases will drive down long-term borrowing costs and spur the recovery.

"Growth is not enough to bring down the unemployment rate significantly and that's going to keep the Fed on its open ended (quantitative easing) program. We are not going to see stronger GDP growth until the middle of 2013," said Gus Faucher, senior economist at PNC Financial Services Group in Pittsburgh.

Despite the anticipated improvement in economic performance from the prior quarter, the composition of growth is likely to be rather unfavorable and the pace of consumer spending may not be sustainable without a significant pickup in job creation.

High stock prices and firming house values have made households a bit more willing to take on new debt, supporting consumer spending. A mild increase in wages has also helped.

INVENTORIES A WILD CARD

Inventories are also expected to account for a portion of third-quarter GDP growth, although they are a bit of a wild card given that a drought in the country's Midwest has decimated grain and corn crops, reducing farm inventories.

Aside from the impact of the drought, companies do not appear to have cut back on inventories despite a highly uncertain economic outlook.

Excluding inventories, however, the report will likely show only a marginal increase in domestic demand.

Business spending likely contracted for the first time since the first quarter of 2011.

Much of the drag in business spending, which has been a source of strength since the recession ended, is expected to come from weak outlays on equipment and software, reflecting uncertainty over the nation's fiscal policy.

Spending on nonresidential structures is also expected to have contracted after five straight quarters of growth.

While investment in home building likely saw a double-digit increase - thanks to record low mortgage rates and improving property values - housing only accounts of about 2.5 percent of GDP, making its contribution marginal.

Government spending is expected to have been a drag on growth for a ninth straight quarter.

In addition, slowing global demand, especially in Europe and China, probably undercut U.S. exports. That likely left a trade deficit that weighed on GDP growth.

Georgia store offers gun raffle tickets to voters

ATLANTA (AP) ? Want a chance to win a rifle or handgun? Go vote. That's the message from an Atlanta-area sporting goods store.

The promotion caught the attention of the secretary of state's office last week and drew a complaint from a state senator who said it may break the law.

Georgia law prohibits anyone from giving or receiving money or gifts in exchange for voting, and felony charges could be brought if the law were broken, Secretary of State Brian Kemp said in a statement.

Eight billboards for Adventure Outdoors urge people to bring in their "I voted" sticker to enter a raffle for a Glock handgun or Browning rifle. The secretary of state's office warned the store owner that offering the raffle only to people who voted may be violating the law.

Store owner Jay Wallace said the raffle was open to anyone, even those who don't vote.

"Getting people involved is what it's all about," Wallace said Wednesday. "I would encourage other businesses to do the same thing."

No action will be taken as long as Wallace allows anyone to enter the contest, said Jared Thomas, a spokesman for the secretary of state's office.

"Should they violate what they told our office they would do, then that will be taken into account and actions will be taken accordingly," Thomas said.

Democratic State Sen. Vincent Fort of Atlanta filed a complaint Tuesday, saying businesses are not even allowed under the law to offer free food or drinks to voters.

"Now that that they've expanded it and allow all customers to participate, I think it's a legal raffle," Fort said. "I don't have any objections to it if it complies with the law."

Reaction to the raffle has been "almost 100 percent positive," Wallace said.

"We received some almost slanderous emails," he added. "I would say they're on the side of not liking guns, to put it mildly."

At the store in the Atlanta suburb of Smyrna, reaction was mixed among customers.

"I think people should go vote because they're interested in the topics of what's being voted for, whether it's the president or your local judge," said Ernest Susco. "To promote giving a gun away for someone to go to vote, I'm not crazy about that idea."

John Keels, another customer, said it was a "pretty good idea."

"Well, since this is probably the most important election in my lifetime, anything that gets the public out to vote is good as long as it doesn't break the law," Keels said.

This rarely happens, but it does happen. This usually ends in both uncureds getting cured, even if they are both under the age of eighteen.

For example, when it comes to high school in Portland, the main two are St. Anne`s Highschool for Girls, and Spencer Prep for Boys.

Assembly of nano-machines mimics human muscle

ScienceDaily (Oct. 23, 2012) ? For the first time, an assembly of thousands of nano-machines capable of producing a coordinated contraction movement extending up to around ten micrometers, like the movements of muscular fibers, has been synthesized by a CNRS team from the Institut Charles Sadron.

This innovative work, headed by Nicolas Giuseppone, professor at the Universit? de Strasbourg, and involving researchers from the Laboratoire de Mati?re et Syst?mes Complexes (CNRS/Universit? Paris Diderot), provides an experimental validation of a biomimetic approach that has been conceptualized for some years in the field of nanosciences. This discovery opens up perspectives for a multitude of applications in robotics, in nanotechnology for the storage of information, in the medical field for the synthesis of artificial muscles or in the design of other materials incorporating nano-machines (endowed with novel mechanical properties). This work has been published in the online version of the journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition.

Nature manufactures numerous machines known as "molecular." Highly complex assemblies of proteins, they are involved in essential functions of living beings such as the transport of ions, the synthesis of ATP (the "energy molecule"), and cell division. Our muscles are thus controlled by the coordinated movement of these thousands of protein nano-machines, which only function individually over distances of the order of a nanometer. However, when combined in their thousands, such nano-machines amplify this telescopic movement until they reach our scale and do so in a perfectly coordinated manner. Even though synthetic chemists have made dazzling progress over the last few years in the manufacture of artificial nano-machines (the mechanical properties of which are of increasing interest for research and industry), the coordination of several of these machines in space and in time hitherto remained an unresolved problem.

Not anymore: for the first time, Giuseppone's team has succeeded in synthesizing long polymer chains incorporating, via supramolecular bonds, thousands of nano-machines each capable of producing linear telescopic motion of around one nanometer. (A supramolecular bond is an interaction between different molecules that is not based on a traditional "covalent" chemical bond but instead on what are known as "weak interactions," thereby constituting complex molecular structures.) Under the influence of pH, their simultaneous movements allow the whole polymer chain to contract or extend over about 10 micrometers, thereby amplifying the movement by a factor of 10,000, along the same principles as those used by muscular tissues. Precise measurements of this experimental feat have been performed in collaboration with the team led by Eric Buhler, a physicist specialized in radiation scattering at the Laboratoire Mati?re et Syst?mes Complexes (CNRS/Universit? Paris Diderot).

These results, obtained using a biomimetic approach, could lead to numerous applications for the design of artificial muscles, micro-robots or the development of new materials incorporating nano-machines endowed with novel multi-scale mechanical properties.

Google's Android event: 'Nexus 4,' 'Nexus 10' and more Nexus

Google's got an Android?event scheduled for Oct. 29, about a year following the announcement of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone and Android 4.0 (better known as Ice Cream Sandwich). As with every event of this magnitude, there's a host of rumors about what might be announced. Here are the best ones:

Nexus 4
Based on photos posted to Google+ by LG and Google employees, the next Google Nexus smartphone will be made by LG and called the Nexus 4.?Given that the Nexus 7 is a 7-inch tablet, we could assume that the Nexus 4 will be a 4-inch device.

The Next Web's Matt Brian says that a "source with knowledge of Google's plans" claims that the Nexus 4 will have a quad-core 1.5 GHz ?processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera (and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera). According to this individual, the device will have a?a?4.7-inch display with a?1280 x 768 pixel resolution. (If that's the case, we wonder why Google didn't round up and dub the device the Nexus 5.)

Like prior Nexus devices, the Nexus 4 is expected to be among the first to run Google's latest and greatest mobile operating system, Android 4.2.

Nexus 7
The Nexus 7 has been around since late June, after being announced during Google I/O, and Google's giving it extra attention nonetheless. According to multiple reports, the tablet will now come in two 32GB versions, ?one of which will offer HSPA+ connectivity.?

Nexus 10
Google and Samsung have been working together on a 10-inch tablet, writes the Next Web's Matt Brian. This tablet will supposedly be dubbed the Nexus 10 and offer a higher resolution display than the third-generation iPad, as previously suggested by analysts.

Android 4.2
Google is expected to show off Android 4.2 during the Oct. 29 event and, according to the Next Web's Matt?Brian, this latest version of Google's mobile operating system is expected to compete directly with Apple's iOS 6 (though that's pretty much a given). Brian's mystery source says that Android 4.2 will offer new panoramic camera features, a way to access Play Store content from a widget, and multi-user support for tablets.

LONDON (AP) -Anton Ferdinand joined older brother Rio in refusing to wear a T-shirt to support an anti-discrimination campaign Sunday, in a perceived protest at the impotence of organizations during recent racism cases in English football.

The younger Ferdinand was at the center of the most high-profile incident in the past year when he was abused by John Terry during a Premier League match last October.

Terry was banned for four matches and fined 220,000 pounds for hurling a racial slur, but many players feel the punishment was too lenient, as with other sanctions related to recent incidents of racism.

Anton Ferdinand was one of a number of players who declined to wear a T-shirt promoting the Kick It Out campaign in the warm-up before Sunday's Premier League match between his Queens Park Rangers team and Everton.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand did the same before Saturday's match against Stoke, angering manager Alex Ferguson so much that the center back could face disciplinary action.

"It is embarrassing for me," said Ferguson, who had told members of the press that Ferdinand would not boycott the campaign. "He will be dealt with, no doubt about that."

However, Ferdinand's stance was backed by the chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association, which provides funds for the Kick It Out body.

"We will definitely monitor the situation very closely and make sure Rio Ferdinand's rights as a human being, never mind as a footballer, are not undermined in this position," PFA chairman Clarke Carlisle said.

"Everyone has a right to free speech - just like you can't coerce anyone into shaking hands, you can't make somebody wear a T-shirt - although I do personally believe that joining in with the campaign is the best way forward."

Kick It Out has been raising awareness for issues such as racism since the 1990s and began its latest annual two-week campaign on Thursday.

However, Reading striker Jason Roberts declared he wouldn't be taking an active part in the campaign and many others followed suit on Saturday, including Rio Ferdinand and the entire squads of Wigan and Swansea ahead of their Premier League match at Liberty Stadium.

It has been widely reported that the players are unhappy not just with Kick It Out but also the FA for a lack of action in combating racism in football.

Some believe the players' refusal to wear T-shirts during warm-up routines actually gives more publicity to the anti-racism campaign.

Police, meanwhile, are investigating allegations of racist abuse by a supporter during the northeast derby between Sunderland and Newcastle at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Advance Auto warns of lower 3Q earnings

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) ? Shares of auto part retailer Advance Auto Parts fell 3.9 percent Monday after the company warned that its third-quarter earnings per share will fall more than 14 percent when it announces results Nov. 8.

Advance also expects a 0.5 percent decrease in third-quarter revenue because of continued soft sales, and the Roanoke, Va., company lowered its full-year earnings projection again.

The company's shares fell $2.65 to $65.78 in Monday morning trading. They are trading toward the low end of their 52-week range of $60.87 to $93.08.

Advance said it expects third-quarter earnings per share to be $1.21, which is 14.2 percent less than the $1.41 the company earned a year earlier. Revenue will drop to $1.46 billion, the company said in a statement. Comparable store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, were expected to fall 1.8 percent, partly offset by the opening of 82 more stores in the past year.

Analysts polled by FactSet are expecting third-quarter earnings of $1.35 per share on revenue of $1.47 billion.

The company said its lower earnings per share were driven by falling sales, as well as increased promotions and advertising aimed at driving up consumer traffic.

Advance said its operating performance will be constrained for the rest of the year due to lower sales in cold-weather markets and soft consumer spending as people defer maintenance and delay purchases of replacement parts.

It now expects full-year earnings to be $5.05 to $5.15 per share, down from prior guidance of between $5.25 and $5.35. Analysts expect $5.32 per share, on average.

The company said it invested in long-term growth of commercial parts sales and to increase customer traffic, boosting comparable store sales from the second quarter to the third quarter. "Despite these improved sales trends, we were still unable to achieve our profitability expectations and fully mitigate the weak consumer demand within several of our markets, especially in colder-weather markets," CEO Darren Jackson said in a statement.

Being Productive vs. Being Busy | Family Treasures

We?are working very hard. We are working?long hours?on our?business.?Parents don?t have enough time to play with kids because they are busy.?We don?t have time to nurture important relationships because we are busy.?We don?t have the quality of life we would like because we are exhausted from being busy, busy, BUSY!

If you are busy, you may think that you are being productive and accomplishing a lot. The problem is that the busy work for most people isn?t focused on the things that need to be done.

Switch your focus from being busy to being productive so that you can accomplish more, see tangible results and have time for fun!

Here are?7 changes you can make to switch from being busy to being productive:

1. Have a to-do list for things that MUST get done today. MUST is the key word. This is where a lot of people go wrong. They sit down to make a list, and they keep adding and adding, all the things they should?ve done, all the things they want to do, and all the things they wish they could do. They end up with a mile long list, and find it so daunting that any motivation for tackling it disappears. ?MUST get done today? list should have no more than 3-8 items, depending on how big they are, and depending on your lifestyle. They should not be the things that everyone has to do. For example, grocery shopping, picking up kids etc. ? they don?t belong on this list because you have to do them and you are going to do them.
2. Learn Single Tasking. It doesn?t mean that you just work on one thing for weeks or months until you finish it. You can still have variety. It only means that while you are working on a particular task, for that duration of time, you work on that task and that task alone. If it?s important to you, if it adds value to your long-term goals, takes you closer to fulfilling that dream, then give it the attention it deserves.
3. Get a MOM Diary. Why? Well, the MOM Diary has many items to help you be more productive such as a Goal Setting Section, Goal Collage area, Daily Goal Evaluation Section and Daily Gratitude Section. List your main goals. If you have life goals, list them, otherwise list your annual goals. Then, each day, write down your ?MUST get done today? list. Write down how it went. Did you finish everything? How did you feel while you were working on these tasks? Did you feel charged and enthusiastic or did it feel like a chore? Look for the patterns. Are there particular times in the day when you feel more productive? Do some people?s company spur you towards your goals but others have a negative impact?
4. Only check emails a few times per day. Close Outlook, log off the internet or turn off the cell phone. Do whatever you have to and stop the ?You?ve got mail!? messages. It?s not helping. Try to check your email only twice a day: once at 10AM?and once at 4pm.
5. Minimize your time on the phone. Schedule this?to a few times per day. Have a voice-mail message that clearly states when you will return phone calls. Be consistent and put off returning calls unless urgent. Have an emergency phone where people can reach you. Be brief and to the point if they call this number. If you only have one primary line, let the calls to go voice-mail and then return them later. The point is not to interrupt what you?re doing. Finish it before going on to your next important thing.
6. Keep meetings brief or stay out of them completely. Ask for a meeting agenda before every meeting and decline if you find it irrelevant.
7. Stay off Social Media ? What?? I know how important Social Media is. I know it?s here to stay and essential for building relationships with customers and building a business BUT Learning how to use Social Media for your growing business will help you spend LESS time on the various networks. Facial recognition helps ID winners in presidential debates

Marketing researcher Chris Kowal has an unusual way of deciding who wins each U.S. presidential debate this year. He's using facial recognition technology to capture the emotions President Barack Obama, presidential candidate Mitt Romney and their vice president picks show while they debate. Whoever is more open and expressive appeals to voters more, Kowal?told WLFI, a Lafayette, Ind. news station.

"The most important part of any type of branding, sales appeal, voter attraction, whatever you want to look at, is going to be that emotional connection," Kowal said. He is a professor at Purdue University in West Lafayette.

Kowal found that Obama won the second presidential debate on Oct. 16, an assessment that agrees with many news outlets' conclusions. Compared to his performance in the first presidential debate on Oct. 3, Obama was more confident, showed a wider range of emotions and connected with the audience better, Kowal?told WLFI. The researcher noted the sadness in the president's face when he talked about the shootings in Aurora, Colo.

Romney showed a more limited range of emotions, but nevertheless displayed some strong feelings, especially disgust, Kowal told WLFI. The Republican candidate showed pride when he talked about his governorship of Massachusetts, Kowal said.?

The software Kowal uses analyzes video clips, tracking the movement of 491 points in people's faces to identify universal emotions such as happiness, sadness, disgust, surprise and fear.?

Kowal has put his software to work for all of the debates so far. During the first presidential debate, he found Romney displayed aggressive, powerful emotions "70 percent of the time he was speaking to President Obama," he?told WTHR, an Indiana-based NBC affiliate.?

Obama, on the other hand, kept his head down, making it difficult for the software to track his emotions. "He didn't allow himself to be expressive," Kowal said.?

During the vice presidential debate Oct. 11, Kowal identified aggressive emotions in Vice President Joe Biden and surprise in Republican candidate Paul Ryan. Nevertheless, Ryan was likeable throughout the debate, Kowal said.?

Kowal didn't identify a vice presidential debate winner for CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin,?who interviewed him. Instead, he said the debate probably encouraged and motivated decided voters on both sides without necessarily swaying undecided citizens.

Kowal will use the data he collects this election season to check his analyses match how voters really feel, WLFI reported. It should also be possible to use facial recognition to check when debaters are lying, Kowal said.?

Kahne qualifies on pole for Cup race at Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) ? Every championship contender knew that starting position would be paramount at repaved Kansas Speedway, where getting to the front after the green flag drops could present a problem.

Kasey Kahne and Clint Bowyer will have the luxury of starting there.

Kahne earned the pole for Sunday's race by shattering the track record with a lap of 191.360 mph, and Bowyer qualified behind Michael Waltrip Racing teammate Mark Martin in third Friday.

"That was a fast lap," Bowyer said, basically summing up the lap turned by everyone. "It's unreal how much that gets your attention."

Kahne is fifth in points with five races left in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, while Bowyer is fourth after his win last week at Charlotte. Both of them are chasing leader Brad Keselowski, five-time champion Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin.

"It's hammer-down, man," said Bowyer, a native of Emporia, Kan. "Looking forward to practice tomorrow. I think we've done a good job so far. Still got a long ways to go."

Not as far to go as Keselowski.

He'll be one of the drivers trying to meander their way through the field over the repaved surface after qualifying 25th. The only Chase driver to qualify worse was three-time champion Tony Stewart, will start 33rd for Sunday's race.

"We just have more work than we wanted," Keselowski said. "Track position is important. If you don't qualify well, you just have to make sure that your car is fast in race trim, and that's what we'll try to do tomorrow."

All 43 cars in the field broke the previous track record 180.856 mph set by Matt Kenseth in 2005, though that came as no surprise. Drivers were turning laps in excess of 190 during practice, and cars were approaching 205 mph before letting up entering the corners.

Speeds not seen over the track since IndyCars were running on it.

"All the drivers are high-fiving each other because we came back here alive," joked Kyle Busch, who qualified fourth. "The minimum speed through the corner is amazing."

Johnson, who will start seventh, said he was "as brave as I could be."

"You're just driving your guys out and doing everything you can all the way around," he said. "You know it's fast. You just don't know if it's fast enough."

Kansas Speedway underwent a massive renovation over the summer that replaced the old, worn-out surface with new pavement while creating variable banking in the corners. It was a necessary step after massive chunks of asphalt chipped off the track during the April race weekend.

Still, the decision was met with consternation from many drivers who have seen multiple lanes and the ability to pass disappear at other tracks that have undergone resurfacing projects.

Martin said he's concerned that one lane along the bottom of the track will make it difficult to pass. That's been the case at some other repaved tracks.

"It's a new track now. I mean, it really is, and we're going to have to learn as we go," Martin said. "We can't find out tomorrow in practice what the track is going to be like Sunday. It's just not going to happen. This track is coming in very slowly."

Hamlin qualified ninth after wrecking the car he intended to use for Sunday's race when he clipped the wall entering Turn 1 near the start of testing on Thursday.

Hamlin wound up making two visits to the infield care center before he was cleared by medical staff to resume testing. He unloaded the car he used at Chicago, where he was in contention for the win, and was good enough to post a lap of 190.718.

"You always have a rebound time that you got to have to get your senses back. The trust in the car and everything is back," Hamlin said. "It's not the car we wanted to race originally, but it's not too bad."

Regan Smith will start 40th in place of Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is missing his second straight race. Earnhardt pulled himself from the car after sustaining two concussions in a six-week span ? the first during a tire test at Kansas, the second during a massive wreck at Talladega.

Smith was seventh-fastest in practice but got sideways during his qualifying lap Friday.

AJ Allmendinger qualified 13th in his second race with Phoenix Racing. The team had been slated to use Smith for the final six races of the season after Kurt Busch left early to get a start on next year's job with Furniture Row Racing.

Hendrick Motorsports wanted Smith to fill-in for Earnhardt, though, and Allmendinger got his first opportunity since his July suspension for failing a random drug test. He completed NASCAR's recovery program and was reinstated in September.

Busch, meanwhile, qualified 29th for Furniture Row.

"This place is really fast right now, so when you kind of are in practice, you get that rhythm of going out there," Allmendinger said. "We definitely have good speed and track position is going to be everything, so it's the way that is going to play out."

How to find movies and showtimes in your area with Siri

1. Press and hold down your Home button to activate Siri.

2. Tell Siri to "Find movies playing in my area" or ask "What movies are playing near me?"

3. Wait for Siri to pull up a list of movies and their show times for today.
4. Tap a movie to get more information, including cast and crew, rating, synopsis, and the trailer.

You can be even more specific if you want to, and mix in other criteria. For example, you can tell Siri to "find all g-rated movies playing in my area" or "find any movies starring Justin Timberlake playing near me"

How to get information about a movie, director, or actor with Siri

1. Press and hold down your Home button to activate Siri.

2. Tell Siri "Show me info on the movie Taken 2." or "Show me movies directed by George Lucas."
3. Wait for Siri to bring up the movie widget.

The movie widget will contain lots of information and some, like ratings or trailers, can be tapped to see and learn even more about the movie. You can even ask for movies that haven't been released yet, or movies that are no longer in theaters but are available in iTunes or through other services.

If a movie is available through iTunes, an iTunes link will let you buy it right from the Siri widget.

How to watch movie trailers with Siri

1. Press and hold down the Home button to activate Siri.

2. Tell Siri to "Play the trailer for Despicable Me." or "Play the Despicable Me trailer."

3. If Siri finds multiple matches, it'll ask you to choose the specific one you wish to view.

This is a great way to go directly to a movie trailer without having to go to the information widget first.

How to check movie ratings with Siri

1. Press and hold down the Home button to activate Siri.

2. Tell Siri "Show me moving ratings for Despicable Me." or "What kind of ratings did the movie Taken 2 get?"
3. If Siri finds more than one match, she'll ask you to choose the name of the movie.

4. Tap on it and ratings will then be displayed from Rotten Tomatoes.

How to get directions to a movie theater with Siri

1. Press and hold down the Home button in order to activate Siri.

2. Tell Siri to "Find movies playing near me." or "Find a movie theater near me."

3. Siri will show the theater name at the very top with movie listings underneath it. Tap on the theater name and address at the top.

4. You will be routed to the built-in Maps app and the theater will be shown on a map.

From here you can route directions to the theater of your choice.

How to view info on multiple movie theaters with Siri

By default Siri will only show you showtimes for your current location. If you're planning a trip or going out of town and want to pre-plan, this probably isn't much help. You can, however, override the defaults to find out about theaters and showtimes outside of your area.

1. Press and hold down the Home button to activate Siri.

2. Ask Siri something like "Find theaters in Chicago, IL." or "Find movies playing at the Metreon in San Francisco."

This will make Siri override your current location and look for movies and theaters in the area you are asking for. From here you can view showtimes and theater information just like you would locally.
