Need your opinion- used Christmas gifts - Adoption.com Forums

I remember, in 1971 (yes, I looked it up), the Walton's movie that was the precursor to the TV series: The Homecoming: A Christmas Story.

The scene I remember most was that one of the girl's desperately wanted a doll for Christmas. Of course, the family was too poor to buy one and too proud for charity.

But the kids ignored their parents' pride and went to the local mission toy giveaway. Wonder of wonders, the girl got a package that looked like it could be a doll! It was a doll!

A not-so-gently used doll with a cracked face.

It was horrible.

I was in elementary school in 1971, but the heartbreak of that scene is still my first thought when it comes to "charitable" giving at the holidays.

My vote is for new.
