Battlefield 1942 available for free on Origin ? Video Games Reviews ...

Depending on where you work, your lunch breaks may be used as a chance to partake in some office-wide multiplayer gaming on your PC. I have lost count of the number of lunch breaks I?ve spent engrossed in Counter-Strike, but Battlefield 1942 was definitely my favorite to play with friends and work colleagues several years ago now.

It?s surprising to find that Battlefield 1942 is 10 years old, and EA has decided to celebrate the anniversary by offering the game for free. The only catch being that you have to sign up for an Origin account in order to get it.

This is the first time EA has actually offered the game as a download, and it is sure to make many a PC gamer happy and a bit nostalgic. It?s a great multiplayer experience due to the fact the game supports up to 64 players and lets you control 35 different ?machines of war.?

The main gameplay centers on a Conquest mode that sees the player and his team attempting to gain control of key positions across a map. If you control a position your team can spawn there, with the end goal being to control the entire map and drive the enemy out. Multiplayer is certainly the best way to experience the game, but a single player mode with bots makes for a good training ground.

The only thing missing from this download release is the two expansion packs: The Road to Rome and Secret Weapons of WWII. But this is the original game, for free, so we can?t complain.

Gaining access is as simple as logging in or signing up for an Origin account. After that you just need to head on over to the Battlefield 1942 web page and complete a 1.2GB download to start playing. And as this is a 10-year-old game, loading times are pretty much non-existent.
